House of Shells
Can you count the shells? This 16th-century palace is covered in the things. It was built by Don Rodrigo Arias de Maldonado, a knight of the Order of Santiago de Compostela. The symbol of this order is the seashell, and he decided that it’d be rather splendid to have them all over his palace. The result is the magnificent Casa de Conchas, a seashell-studded marvel.

Enjoyed exploring the maze of alleys, got lost a few times but that's ok. We acquired several street maps, the best for us was the one given to us by the tourist office. Good views from Pl.Carvajales and Pl.S.Nicolas.

Whether you're inside Alhambra, or looking at it from the outside; it is awe inspiring. Some of the best views of the Alhambra are from the Albaicin neighbourhood. And while the Mirador San Nicholas is the more popular places, head up further to Mirador San Miguel. Admittedly, it is a bit of a climb. But the climb is completely worth it. Don't forget to soak in the beauty of the neighbourhood as you're walking though. It is as beautiful

The Albaicin, or more correctly Albayzin, is the old muslim part of the town. Very atmospheric is however a place to be avoided after sunset, especially by women. At anytime stay away from the area around Mirador San Nicolas, where pickpockets abound.

What a lovely place to walk around and explore.
What a lovely place to walk around and explore. At night there's the hustle and bustle of the shops lower down the hill, but walk a little bit up you end up in alleys and gorgeous doorways. Also glimpses of the Alhambra at night. Perfect for a great photo in some location. We also climbed higher during the day and had a great view of the city.

Use the application GPSmycity for a wonderful self-guided tour in Albaicin. Go with the bus to the highest point and hike down the area for amazing views and cultural impressions of the old arab houses. Finish your tour with a Flamenco show at one of the Gipsies Caves in ElSacramonte. You will have one of the remarkables days of your lifes.

For us, this was much the best area of Granada.
For us, this was much the best area of Granada. If you can manage the steep steps up through the Old Town towards the Alhambra, hive off down some of the little streets and soak up the fabulous views, quaint houses, lovely architecture and atmosphere.
Avoid the 'tourist traps' who advertise Flamenco shows and find some authentic musicians who play in tiny clubs like El Tabanco instead.

This hotel is lovely, perfect for a short stay. Very centrally location! The receptionist was also very lovely and helpful. I liked the layout / interior decor of the hotel, felt more like a traditional / historical home in Albaicin!
We are very satisfied with this place and definitely recommend it. The location is awesome, it gives you a private view of the Alhambra from the terrace! It's situated right between Albaicin and Sacromonte and also very well communicated with other city parts. Despite the close proximity of attractions, the apartment was very quiet and restful. The bed was very comfortable. The apartment was well equipped, with the fridge, corkscrew, scissors, iron, and toilet paper.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the location is amazing, inside the Albaicin and within walking distance of the Alhambra. The hotel itself was lovely, old-style, very clean - we could not have asked for more!
Lovely apartment, in the heart of the Albaicin, with buskers outside in the evening but not noisy at night. Comfortable bed, sofa & rocking chair, great kitchenette, everything superclean. A real retreat for when you've walked yourself to a standstill.
Great location in Albaicin. Not far to walk to Plaza Nueva and the Alhambra. We had a lovely apartment with views from the lounge room. Good facilities, quiet and clean. The bed was comfy. Staff for checkin were great - really helpful and gave great tips for tapas bars and Alhambra. Also prompt for answering queries before arrival.
Loved the character of the hotel, the inside is really pretty. The location was excellent for visiting the Alhambra and Albaicín area. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. We had a family room with a spiral staircase which was perfect for our boys (age 11 &13) as they had their own space.
Fantastic location at the bottom of Albaicin and literally minutes away from the centre. The studio apartment has everything you need for a short stay, including a compact kitchen. The rooftop views of Alhambra are amazing!
Perfect location in Albaicín neighbourhood. Couple of minutes walk to Mirador san Nicolás, bus stop, bars and restaurants and shops. Huge apartment which was amazing value for money and so comfortable and clean. Lots of little extras, coffee pods, milk and snacks, shower gel, hairdryer, first aid kit and lots more. Great guides to the area and advice on where to eat and how to get your the Alhambra. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay.
First of all, very friendly and helpful receptionist! Next morning we were able to leave our luggages in the hotel which has the same owner near Albaicin. And it was a proposal by receptionist (with the detailed instructions how to get there)! Furthermore, apartments have all equipments (e.g. washing machine and air conditioning system) that You need even for a longer stay. Finally, it has a common terace (for all apartments in the building) where You can enjoy Your morning coffee or something else :)
