All the good restaurants are outside Esponsende - mainly in Apulia. A nice little hike or short taxi ride. Bridge to Fao needs some TLC, at least if you walk over it. Fantastic views, but the rusty bits on the footpath high above the water are somewhat anxiety-inducing (and I even heard that from experienced Camino walkers ...) Would not walk over a second time ...

Esposende was one of the best places to stay that we have had on this trip for the Camino de Santiago. The people that run the hotel are wonderful and very friendly. Everything is very clean and they have a great lounge with a good kitchen to make what you want. I would recommend them and their rooms to anyone going to that area.

We thought everybody had left town.
We thought everybody had left town. The whole place was strangely quiet and deserted. We struggled to find an open place to eat. It was early September. A lot of derelict buildings.
Just about good enough for a one night Camino stopover.

We are an elderly couple who have been to the area many times since 1975 and never tire of it. It has not suffered overdevelopment like many other resorts. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the food and laid back style . The surrounding area such as Ponte de Lima is superb so a car enhances the experience.

Esposende is a nice little town and a cool spot for kitesurfing. When I was there it was quiet and relaxing. I couldn't find amazing places for lunch or dinner actually, but some nice local patisseries instead. Having said that, there is some offer, just not to the level I was hoping. The coast is nice, the wind strong, people are nice too, and it is very close to other nice towns in the north of Portugal

Very nice place with nice sea and the special cakes from Fao. If you are in Esposende you have definitely to go to get some "Clarinhas de Fão". Fão is on the south bank of the river. You can find them in a very small "pastelaria".
I loved my time at Sea Soul! George has done an excellent job at creating inviting spaces. The linen, pillows, and bed were the most comfortable out of all the places I have stayed in Portugal. All of the staff were lovely, but I cannot say enough good things about Eduardo. He has such a HUGE heart and takes care of everyone. He even surprised me and my roommates with a cake for my birthday! I’m very happy I chose this hostel for my time in Esposende.
This is truly a great hostel.
It has the best of both worlds.
The comfort of a hotel and the friendliness of a hostel.
Plus there is a nice pool, a great beach with dunes, and a superb sea food festival right next door (the later takes place beginning of August)!
And last but not the least, the owner Sandra is very flexible (we had to shorten our stay and she agreed to the reimbursement).
This hotel was an excellent find and the staff were friendly and we felt very welcome and accomodated. Because of this we booked a second stay. When we returned a few days later and the staff at check in recognised us and even remembered the room we had. We had the evening dinner buffet and the food was excellent and a wide range of very tasty options.
Very high level of hospitality. Impeccably clean and tidy. Not every 5 star hotel can brag with this variety of hygiene supplies found in the bathroom. The host, a noble-looking Portugese senhiora, did her best to accommodate my requests despite the language barrier. The interior of the villa is fancy, borderline boujee :).
Exceptionally friendly staff and superb location just a few steps from the beach and from great restaurants. I'm sure the hotel restaurant is very good too, but we didn't have time to try it. Great shower, comfy bed, big plate-glass windows for lots of light. Easy free parking on the street.
This was a beautiful guest house, a real oasis just steps from the Camino trail. The room was bright, spacious and well appointed. Anita went well above and beyond in making sure her guests had everything they needed. And she is a fantastic cook! I highly recommend staying here.
Maria wins the Camino award for the most fun hostess ever. Very nice living space with kitchen. Town didn’t have much by way of restaurants. Shopped at grocery right down the street and had a very nice dinner with the other pilgrims staying there
Right on the Camino before you reach central Esposende, the location was perfect after a day of walking. The staff was friendly and helpful and my room had a BATHTUB, which was perfect for soaking my sad feet.
Exceptionally clean. Quiet. Central location. Staff very helpful. Conveniently close to river and ocean beaches. Wry close to Ecovia Litoral North hiking and biking trail. Best kitesurfing in Portugal!
Absolutely amazing hotel! Located right across the street from the Camino. Beautiful pool, incredible staff, comfortable bed and room. Breakfast was terrific . Highly recommend!!
A clean and comfortable rest stop on a long Camino walk. The location was good and in the heart of the charming small town of Esposende.
Thank you for a lovely stay.
Clean and comfortable. I was given a map of the town with suggestions for dining. I had a large private room with bathroom. Plenty of space for unpacking.
