With whitewashed houses perched on rocky cliffs backed by the Sierra de Burno mountains, Nerja certainly has a picturesque setting. Other than from a boat, the best place to admire it is the so-called Balcony of Europe, a viewing platform overlooking the rugged coastline and turquoise waters.
Below the platform is a panoramic restaurant, and there are more restaurants and shops in the narrow town centre streets, as you would expect of a Costa del Sol resort. However, Nerja’s distinct character differentiates it from the high-rise resorts. Its relaxed feel and Blue Flag beaches attract families, and there are good diving spots off neighbouring Maro.
The town is spread over hills, and below one just outside town the Nerja Caves stretch for over 5 km. Concerts are held in one cavernous chamber.
A 19th-century, multi-level aqueduct spans a gorge to the east, while to the west the Rio Chillar cuts through rocks to form a waterfall. The nearby donkey sanctuary also houses the occasional other farmyard animal. Dating back to the 17th century is the Hermitage of Las Angustias, and El Salvador Church is on a square looking out to sea.
Booking.com’s Nerja accommodation includes luxury beach hotels, guest houses with pools, and cheap apartments with parking – particularly handy if you arrive by car from Málaga Airport.
Nerja was a good place to start our stay in Costa del Sol.
Nerja was a good place to start our stay in Costa del Sol. We visited the old city and it was very nice. The highlights of the stay were the Nerja caves and a trip to Frigiliana. Use the public parkings as street parking is very limited.

Loved the area. Very clean. Lots to see and do.
Loved the area. Very clean. Lots to see and do. Plenty of choice of bars and restaurants. It was quite busy in the centre of town. We were there in April, it might be too busy for us later in the summer.

So beautiful place sorunded by mountains and sea view.
So beautiful place sorunded by mountains and sea view. Waking up with sunrise between Nerja mountains is just spectacular. Nerja offers great beaches- quite and wild and also famous louder playa burriana with good restaurants/shops and bars. For those who love hiking Nerja is just perfect! Must see Frigiliana- so romantic mountain village! For me Nerja is a mixture of amazing nature, intense colors, great food, very kind and helpful people, extraordinary landscape ( try kayak trip!), beautiful architecture and Old Town with very good shops and galleries. I recommend to come during April and September/October- not so many tourists and nice temperatures plus easier to talk with local people. Very good access by public transport- bus from Malaga ( 1.20h) only 5€. Hasta pronto Nerja!

Nerja is a jewel on the south coast.
Nerja is a jewel on the south coast. It's about an hour's drive from the airport but worth taking a bit more time. It's a beautiful town with many choices for recreation and dining. We enjoyed our time there very much and could have easily spent more than two day!

Nerja is a nice town well worth a wander.
Nerja is a nice town well worth a wander. The location was excellent for travelling around the mountains and seeing the villages in the Pujarro. Frigilliana and competa are the famous ones, but try some of the less 'tourist' villages like Orgiva or lanjerron.
Amazing Location, superb breakfast and the grounds are fantastic. Whilst not right in the centre of Nerja the Parador is ideally placed for peace & quiet but everything Nerja has to offer is in walking distance. We also had two complimentary gifts during our stay, a cake platter and a fruit platter which was a really nice touch.
OK, so its quite an old hotel and the rooms are a bit rustic - BUT the level of cleanliness was second to none, and the housekeeping service is one of the best Ive ever experienced.
Wonderful apartment in Nerja! We booked the place for 2 nights, and absolutely enjoyed it. The decoration is very beautifully and tastefully done. The bed was also extremely comfortable! Overall everything was very clean and the hosts were super friendly and hospitable - you immediately felt at home!
The pool was a greay addition for when you didn't want to make the (short) walk to the beach.
Also more than plenty of (free) parking right in front, on the street.
Thanks again for the great stay! :-)
The hotel is right on the beach. We upgraded to a room with a balcony at the front. Very pleasant having a coffee listening to the waves. Room was spacious and spotless. Well worth the extra. Staff brilliant. Plenty of choice of hot and cold foods at breakfast. We have stayed at many hotels in Nerja over the years and this is the best one. It is in a quieter part of town but still has plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Excellent hotel. Excellent location. Would definately recommend.
Lovely find with a charming room with a balcony and view of the sea. The food was fantastic! We had some our best meals in Spain here - lunch, dinner and breakfast. There are lovely gathering areas throughout the place including a roof top terrace with views of the sea. We got towels from the hotel and walked on a path down to the beach and into town after. The hosts are warm and welcoming. Good parking.
This resort was beautiful. The location is great-just outside Nerja. Our accommodations had two bedrooms and a nice little kitchen and living room area. Perfect for our family of 5. The breakfast in the morning was really nice. Sadly, it was very windy and rainy when we stayed so we didn't use the pool and outside facilities, but they looked really nice.
Nice comfortable sunny apartment. The view from the patio was amazing, full sunshine all day long with ocean view . Kitchen was very well stocked for cooking. Very quiet area. Good distance from center and grocery store if you do not have a car but bus stop close, 200 meter walk (1euro) will get you there. Nerja is an amazing town, do not miss the Cuevas!
Planned for two nights and one full day in Nerja as kind of a “rest” day. Had no idea the downtown section was so beautiful. If the weather had been a little warmer, we would have walked up and down the road to the beach and the beachfront restaurants and never discovered the old town. The Happy Hour in the bar was incredible though.
The Plaza Cavana hotel is amazing. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble at this hotel. It is amazing value, the best location in Nerja and great breakfast. I cannot recommend Plaza Cavana Hotel enough. it is 5 stars all the way without 5 stars price. Excellent staff and excellent value.
A great hotel in the centre of Nerja and 2mins walk from the Balcon de Europa. The hotel is beautifully clean and well cared for. Staff are helpful and efficient. The roof terrace is uniquely divided into discreet sections and smaller terraces making it feel more intimate in character. Great breakfasts also
Highly recommended.
Communication was excellent by Sandro. He left a bottle of wine, coffee, and cookies as part of the welcome which was very thoughtful. After spending 3 weeks in Spain from hotel to hotel, this was our last stop and it was perfect place to wind down. So glad there was a washing machine too!
The staff are lovely, and the location is fantastic (really recommend Playa Caletilla as the best beach in Nerja). It is very close to the main square but it is not at all noisy. The swimming pool was also fantastic as I find that many hotels are overselling what they have.
Excellent hotel with friendly staff. Clean rooms with quirky fittings and interesting lighting. There was a fridge, Nespresso coffee machine and snacks. The bed was really comfortable too. Excellent place to stay very near to Nerja centre.
Llocation was excellent. I find this area the best to stay in Nerja. halfway between the old town area and Burriana Beach. Apartment was basic but it was clean and had everything we needed. plus the showers were roasting which was great.
The apartment had everything we needed for a lovely stay. The view to the mountains was great and there were supermarkets and eateries nearby. Nerja centre was about fifteen minutes away on foot. All in all it was an excellent stay.
The location was excellent. In the center of Nerja. The sound of the waves rolling up on the beach first thing in the morning was incredibly peaceful. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were excellent
Beautiful boutique hotel, clean and comfortable. Location is fantastic. Staff were great. Balcony with pool is beautiful. Breakfast was very satisfying! Loved everything!
